At least 10 people have been killed and 35 injured after a pickup truck drove into a crowd in Louisiana state\u2019s New Orleans, local police said.
\nFollowing Wednesday\u2019s incident on Canal and Bourbon Street, the New Orleans Emergency Preparedness Programme, or NOLA Ready, advised people to stay away from the area.
\n\u201cIt did involve a man driving a pickup truck down Bourbon Street at a very fast pace, and it was very intentional behaviour,\u201d Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick told reporters.
\n\u201cThis man was trying to run over as many people as he possibly could \u2026 it was not a DUI situation,\u201d she added. Kirkpatrick revealed that two police officers were shot by the perpetrator, noting that they were in \u201cstable\u201d condition.
\nEarlier, CBS News, citing witnesses, reported that a truck had crashed into the crowd at high speed, and then the driver got out and started firing a weapon, with police returning fire.
\nNew Orleans mayor said the incident was a \u201cterrorist attack\u201d.<\/p>\n
