Former Israeli diplomat Alon Pinkas says Israelis are \u201cnot supportive\u201d of the continuation of the war in Gaza and remain \u201csceptical\u201d about the government\u2019s claim of wanting to achieve a \u201ctotal victory\u201d over Hamas.
\n\u201cMost importantly, they [Israeli public] have very strong doubts and reservations about the idea of launching another military operation that begins with the encircling of Gaza City and will inevitably end up with the occupation of Gaza City,\u201d Pinkas told Al Jazeera.
\n\u201cThe public is not supportive of the government\u2026 This is expressed in multiple polls in the last two or three weeks; there is almost 70 percent support in the Israeli public to end the war,\u201d he added.
\nWith international pressure on the government to end the war, the former diplomat explained that the government is in \u201cdenial\u201d as it verges on a \u201cpariah state\u201d.
\n\u201c[The government] is relying entirely on the whims of [US] President Donald Trump\u2026 It is within Trump\u2019s power to stop the war with one phone call,\u201d Pinkas said.<\/p>\n
