Sultan Barakat, Professor of Public Policy at Hamad bin Khalifa University, told Al Jazeera that Israel\u2019s move to approve bills annexing the occupied West Bank undermines the Gaza ceasefire and risks reigniting conflict.
\nHe noted that the original ceasefire deal and Arab normalisation agreements, including the Abraham Accords, were based on Israel\u2019s pledge not to annex Palestinian land.
\nBarakat argued that some Israeli factions oppose peace to pursue total victory.
\nHe added that Washington has tools to pressure Israel\u2014such as delaying arms and financial support\u2014and that Netanyahu faces mounting economic and political strain.
\nBarakat warned that defying the US at this stage could politically isolate Netanyahu.<\/p>\n
