{"id":83865,"date":"2025-11-20T14:43:38","date_gmt":"2025-11-20T14:43:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nicheblog.top\/news\/meta-to-start-closing-australian-teen-accounts-ahead-of-social-media-ban-bbc-news\/"},"modified":"2025-11-20T14:43:38","modified_gmt":"2025-11-20T14:43:38","slug":"meta-to-start-closing-australian-teen-accounts-ahead-of-social-media-ban-bbc-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nicheblog.top\/news\/meta-to-start-closing-australian-teen-accounts-ahead-of-social-media-ban-bbc-news\/","title":{"rendered":"Meta to start closing Australian teen accounts ahead of social media ban | BBC News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Australian teenagers on Instagram, Facebook and Threads are being told their accounts will be shut down ahead of the country&#8217;s <!--more--> social media ban for under-16s.<\/p>\n<p>Meta, which owns the three brands, said it had begun notifying users it believes to be between 13 and 15 years old that their accounts would start being deactivated from 4 December.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s the world\u2019s strictest law relating to social media and the way young people use it.<\/p>\n<p>The ban comes into force on 10 December and affects a number of platforms which also include TikTok, YouTube, X and Reddit.<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the ban was aimed at &#8220;letting kids be kids&#8221;.
