\nRunning from the main Canary Wharf estate in east London to the South Quay area, the footbridge is expected to eventually accommodate 85,000 people a day, making it the city\u2019s second-busiest pedestrian crossing.\u2060

\nBut \u00a32.3mn has been spent on planning and consultancy since 2019, and the original construction start date of 2023 is long gone, with officials saying its cost has now risen by a quarter to \u00a325mn because of ‘external economic factors’, explains the FT’s Georgina Quach.\u2060<\/p>\n
