Architects across the Roman empire <!--more--> had mastered the art of manipulating stone and concrete while the Roman military leaders and engineers have fashioned metal and wood to create devastating weapons of war. They fashioned a close, fearsome sword called the Gladius which was double edged with a sharp point used for stabbing and thrusting. Then for long range combat, their spear, called a pilum, could cause havoc from a distance.<\/p>\n<p>Roman armies were also super succesful due their intelligent tactics. From creating testudo&#8217;s, latin for Tortoise, they&#8217;d bunch together and lock their shields in formation to create a protective screen, a formation as effective in attack, as it is in defence.
