She has not only made a name for herself as a country singer but as an actress as well. Dolly starred in hit films such as 9 to 5 and Steel Magnolias. Plus, her philanthropic efforts to keep children reading are beyond admirable. Most recently, she launched a beauty line along with a Kendra Scott jewelry collaboration<\/a>. There is also her baking line and frozen desserts, which people love. So much so that Dolly and her sister Rachel wrote a cookbook together to give fans a chance to make downhome good meals.<\/p>\n Unfortunately, Dolly just went through immense heartbreak as her husband of nearly sixty years, Carl Dean, passed away. She had slowed down her career to be by his side when he fell ill, but it was devastating to let him go. Dolly emerged to celebrate Dollywood\u2019s fortieth anniversary<\/a>, and fans were thrilled to see her up and out. Now, they are petitioning for a Nashville airport to honor Dolly and all that she has done. The idea is to now call it Dolly Parton International Airport, and the petition has garnered 45K signatures.<\/p>\n Lydia Popovich, who is partly responsible for orchestrating this change, explained why the airport should reflect Dolly:<\/p>\n We\u2019re talking about a woman who is an archangel for Tennessee. She\u2019s given back so much, it\u2019s time to give her something.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Co-creator Dan Dion added this of Dolly:<\/p>\n She\u2019s just such a really shining, glittering example of the best of what we should be.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n That is a beautiful testimonial to a woman who has done so much in her career<\/a> and helped fans feel loved. It is the perfect time for this as Dolly mourns Carl.<\/p>\n As for whether or not this can get done, it will take some time. Dolly Parton may be an icon and recognized globally but is that enough for her to get her own airport? The idea came to be when the airport was proposed to be named after the current president. Since that fell through, Lydia Popovich and Dan Dion realized the timing was perfect to propose Dolly:<\/p>\n The fact that this, that this idea had been already recently picked up in naming it after someone, it really kicked us and spurred us into action and saying, \u2018If this is an option, if this is something that you\u2019re willing to consider, think about Dolly.\u2019<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n It is a completely valid argument, and everyone seems to love and respect Dolly. Fans came out in droves to support her after<\/a> Carl Dean passed. They were right there to celebrate Dollywood\u2019s milestone, so it is clear she is more than deserving of this honor. The petition creators have tagged the lawmakers in hopes they will see it and make the right decision.
