Following the fizzy teaser \u201c<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/eqmusicblog.com\/listen-to-cold-sweat-hot-boys-by-bright-light-bright-light-ana-matronic\/\">Cold Sweat, Hot Boys<\/a><\/strong>\u201d featuring <strong>Ana Matronic<\/strong> of <strong>Scissor Sisters<\/strong>, likewise, we now get the dramatically reimagined focus track \u201c<strong>Next To You<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Originally appearing on the album \u201c<strong>Fun City\u201d<\/strong>. This new version pairs Rod Thomas with the ever-theatrical <strong>Kim David Smith<\/strong>, and the chemistry is immediate. Where \u201c<strong>Cold Sweat, Hot Boys<\/strong>\u201d leaned into carefree pop exuberance, \u201c<strong>Next To You<\/strong>\u201d slips elegantly into a more shadowy, cabaret-kissed mood. His shows sit somewhere between <strong>Marlene Dietrich<\/strong> and <strong>Kylie Minogue<\/strong>, and I always felt this song suited his voice and theatrical delivery. When he suggested rewriting the spoken word part in French, it added a playfulness that\u2019s both funny and tragic \u2013 it suddenly became this beautifully melodramatic torch-song duet, and I loved that<em>.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>honestly, could there be a more enticing reference point?<\/p>\n<p>All in all, what\u2019s becoming clear is that \u201c<strong>Duets\u201d<\/strong> isn\u2019t just a collection of collaborations it\u2019s a showcase of range. From cheeky dancefloor energy to introspective theatricality, Bright Light Bright Light continues to prove why his catalogue remains one of pop\u2019s most emotionally rich and joyfully inclusive spaces.
