Yet again, Matt<\/strong> Zane<\/strong> has gone ahead and stepped over the line of what’s appropriate as he pursues the unapproved documentary surrounding deceased Static-X<\/a><\/strong> lead singer Wayne Static<\/strong>. This comes after Static<\/strong>‘s family has objected to the film \u2013 even ordering a cease-and-desist<\/a> this past December\u00a0\u2013, as well as the band, and the family of Static<\/strong>‘s late wife, Tera Wray<\/strong>, who took her life in 2016. With so few people backing the film, Zane<\/strong> turned to crowdfunding which raised a whopping $400<\/a>, ultimately pushing through because he says he was friends<\/em> with both Static<\/strong> and Wray<\/strong> in their final years.<\/p>\n In a post to Instagram, Matt<\/strong> Zane<\/strong> wrote in the comments that he was releasing an unheard track of Wayne Static<\/strong>, despite quite literally everyone telling him not to, saying that he couldn’t use the unreleased music for the documentary. He writes complete normally in the third-person,<\/p>\n “An unfinished, previously unheard track recorded by late\u00a0STATIC-X<\/strong>\u00a0frontman\u00a0Wayne Static<\/strong>\u00a0has surfaced as part of filmmaker\u00a0Matt Zane<\/strong>\u2019s ongoing unauthorized documentary project.<\/p>\n “According to\u00a0Zane<\/strong>, the song was intended to appear in his forthcoming film about\u00a0Wayne<\/strong>\u00a0and his late wife\u00a0Tera Wray<\/strong>. However, the estates of\u00a0Wayne<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Tera<\/strong>, along with\u00a0Static-X<\/strong>, have declined to grant permission for the unreleased music to be used.<\/p>\n “I want to make it clear, I\u2019d love to finish and give\u00a0Wayne<\/strong>\u2019s fans his final recording but the families and\u00a0Static-X<\/strong>\u00a0aren\u2019t allowing it,” said\u00a0Zane<\/strong>. “I\u2019d give 100% of the profits of the music to\u00a0Wayne<\/strong>\u2019s and\u00a0Tera<\/strong>\u2019s family as long as the recordings were kept in their original form. They were recorded as\u00a0Wayne Static<\/strong>\u00a0solo music, not\u00a0Static-X<\/strong>.<\/p>\n “The Backstory<\/strong> \u201cWarner <\/strong>Brothers\u00a0stopped us but not before\u00a0Wayne<\/strong>\u00a0gave me a bunch of stuff,\u201d\u00a0Zane<\/strong>\u00a0explained. \u201cI cover the entire ordeal in the documentary. I have a video of\u00a0Wayne<\/strong>\u00a0publicly admitting he wrote music for the series.\u201d<\/p>\n Now, years later,\u00a0Zane<\/strong>\u00a0has chosen to move forward with completing select portions of the material for inclusion in the documentary and its potential soundtrack.<\/p>\n \u201cThere are songs that I won\u2019t touch that\u00a0Wayne<\/strong>\u00a0wrote 100% of,\u201d\u00a0Zane<\/strong>\u00a0stated. \u201cBut all the misc. riffs and other ideas are what I\u2019ll use.\u00a0Wayne<\/strong>\u00a0liked what I was doing with them so I figure I\u2019m on the right track.\u201d<\/p>\n Singer Search Begins<\/strong> \u201cIt\u2019s just like what\u00a0Jonathan Davis<\/strong>\u00a0did for the\u00a0Queen of the Damned<\/strong>\u00a0soundtrack,\u201d\u00a0Zane<\/strong>\u00a0said. \u201cHe wasn\u2019t allowed to sing on that soundtrack so he brought in other singers, including\u00a0Wayne<\/strong>!\u201d<\/p>\n Fans and vocalists interested in participating are invited to submit a recording of themselves performing their favorite\u00a0Wayne Static<\/strong>\u00a0song to:<\/p>\n
Zane<\/strong>\u00a0says the material dates back to 2008 while he was directing\u00a0Tera Wray<\/strong>\u00a0in her music series\u00a0Radium<\/em>. At the time,\u00a0Wayne<\/strong>\u00a0offered music to support the project.<\/p>\n
Due to legal restrictions preventing the use of\u00a0Wayne Static<\/strong>\u2019s original vocal tracks,\u00a0Zane<\/strong>\u00a0is now launching an open call for vocalists who believe they can step in and honor\u00a0Wayne<\/strong>\u2019s style and legacy.<\/p>\n
