There\u2019s something wonderfully deceptive about Thomas Day<\/strong>\u2019s new single \u201cwill you be coming around?<\/strong>\u201d. It arrives with the breezy ease of a summer pop song, yet underneath those lighter-than-air melodies is a very relatable question: what happens when the person you can\u2019t stop thinking about might eventually disappear from your life?<\/p>\n

For me, that emotional contradiction is what makes this new chapter from the rising indie-pop artist particularly intriguing. The track captures that peculiar feeling of having butterflies in your stomach. Only for those fluttering feelings to gradually morph into a tightly wound knot of anxiety. The music seems to understand that emotional whiplash perfectly, floating along while quietly carrying all that pent-up tension.<\/p>\n

A cute panic attack on a train in N.Y.C.<\/em>? Well, that certainly paints a picture! It also perfectly sums up the slightly chaotic emotional territory Thomas is exploring here.<\/p>\n

The accompanying music video, directed by Antony Muse<\/strong>, takes that chaos and throws it into a carefree world of friendship, spontaneity and questionable decisions. We follow a group of friends simply hanging out and living in the moment, while messy situations and unpredictable energy keep bubbling to the surface. There\u2019s even a tantalising feeling that we\u2019re witnessing only one chapter of a story yet to unfold.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s more on the horizon too. Thomas heads to Salt Lake City for a headline show on October 8 before appearing at this year\u2019s Austin City Limits Music Festival<\/strong> on October 11. Meanwhile, he\u2019s been teasing unreleased material on TikTok<\/a><\/strong>. So I suspect \u201cwill you be coming around?<\/strong>\u201d may be just the beginning of this particular era.<\/p>\n

And perhaps that\u2019s what I\u2019m enjoying most here. Thomas Day has taken a very ordinary pop feeling \u2014 please don\u2019t disappear from my life<\/em> \u2014 and dressed it up in sunshine, pink hair and just enough chaos. Sometimes anxiety really does need a good pop song to dance its way through.<\/p>\n
