Associated Press reported<\/a> that jurors deliberated less than three hours before holding Keefe D responsible for orchestrating the September 1996 drive-by shooting.<\/p>\nProsecutors said Keefe D acquired a gun and searched for Tupac and Suge Knight after Tupac\u2019s entourage beat his nephew inside the MGM Grand.<\/p>\n
Gunfire struck Tupac and Suge on September 7, 1996; Tupac died six days later while Suge survived his injuries.<\/p>\n
Authorities never argued that Keefe D fired the shots, but Nevada law holds planners and accomplices responsible for the resulting murder.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor nearly 18 years, Duane Davis has told the police, television, books, YouTube interviewers, anybody that will listen, he has told, he is responsible for the murder of Tupac Shakur,\u201d prosecutor Binu Palal told jurors. \u201cTell him you hear him, find him guilty.\u201d<\/p>\n
Palal also reduced the legal question to two blunt lines: \u201cWho fired is not the question. It\u2019s a plan, not an impulse.\u201d<\/p>\n
Defense attorney Michael Sanft argued that Keefe D invented his accounts for money and attention while investigators failed to find enough physical evidence.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have to ask ourselves the question really at this particular point: Why are we here 30 years later if Duane Davis had actually confessed, truly confessed?\u201d Sanft asked.<\/p>\n
Jurors rejected that defense after hearing recordings, interviews and excerpts from Keefe D\u2019s 2019 memoir, Compton Street Legend<\/em>.<\/p>\nThe Diddy angle behind 50 Cent\u2019s wager comes from a separate allegation Keefe D made during a recorded 2008 police interview.<\/p>\n
Keefe D claimed Diddy offered the Southside Compton Crips $1 million to kill Tupac and Suge during the Bad Boy and Death Row feud.<\/p>\n
\u201cMan, I want to get rid of them dudes,\u201d Diddy allegedly told him, according to Keefe D. \u201cWe\u2019ll wipe their ass out, quick. It\u2019s nothing\u2026We wanted a million.\u201d<\/p>\n
Keefe D claimed his group accepted the alleged offer and sent Eric \u201cVon Zip\u201d Martin to collect the promised money afterward.<\/p>\n
No payment was established, and Keefe D claimed Martin either failed to collect the money or secretly kept it himself.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat\u2019s up with the cash?\u201d Keefe D recalled asking Martin. \u201c[Diddy] ain\u2019t give it to me yet. We need money, m###########. They took our guns, all that s###. We need some money. They must got millions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n
