Jay-Z\u2019s friend Emory Jones completed has gotten presidential clemency from Donald Trump and now has hit a new milestone to his journey.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Emory Jones<\/a> went from federal prison to Roc Nation<\/a> executive and now he\u2019s received a presidential pardon from Donald Trump nearly a decade after returning home.<\/p>\n

Jones, a longtime friend of Jay-Z<\/a> and a prominent figure within the Roc Nation organization, was among 30 people granted clemency by Trump in a new round of presidential actions announced this week. The group included people convicted of an assortment of federal offenses.<\/p>\n

For Jones, the pardon adds another chapter to a story Hip-Hop followers have watched unfold for years.<\/p>\n

Jones was sentenced to nearly 16 years in federal prison in 2000 on cocaine related charges. While he was incarcerated, Jay-Z demonstrated his commitment to his friend and eventually became involved in efforts surrounding his return home.<\/p>\n

In 2010, Jay-Z wrote U.S. District Judge Benson Legg and indicated that Jones would have employment available following his release. The assurance was designed to demonstrate that Jones had a stable reentry plan and professional opportunity waiting for him.<\/p>\n

Legg later reduced Jones\u2019 sentence by 37 months.<\/p>\n

After leaving prison in 2016, Jones joined Roc Nation as head of lifestyle and became a co founder of the Paper Planes apparel company. His transformation from federal inmate to entertainment and fashion executive became part of the larger public story surrounding his friendship with Jay-Z.<\/p>\n

Jones discussed that relationship during a 2023 appearance on the \u201cEar Pollution\u201d podcast.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom day one, the main thing I did to set the tone was when I used to call home, I would tell my brothers, \u2018Y\u2019all don\u2019t owe me nothing,\u2019\u201d Jones said. \u201cIt starts there. What we did for each other, we did from [the heart]. So once you clear that slate, coming from me, that\u2019s that balance right there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jay-Z also made Jones\u2019 incarceration part of his music years earlier. \u201cDo U Wanna Ride,\u201d from the 2006 album \u201cKingdom Come,\u201d featured John Legend and production from Kanye West. The recording included audio of Jones calling from prison.<\/p>\n

REFORM Alliance CEO Jessica Jackson celebrated the pardon and credited White House pardon czar Alice Johnson for her advocacy.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is so amazing. I\u2019m crying happy tears for Emory and for a cohort of Americans who now have a second chance thanks to my good friend, Alice Johnson, who has taken her experience and turned it into a force for good and helped others. And I thank President Trump, who has proven his belief in second chances and has taken on a flawed system as no other president has \u2013 and granted deserving Americans their freedom.\u201c<\/p>\n

Johnson also highlighted Jones while discussing the clemency actions.<\/p>\n

\u201cEmory Jones\u2026served nearly 16 years in federal prison and came home determined to build a different life,\u201d she wrote. \u201cToday he is an entrepreneur and creative leader whose journey reminds us how much people can grow\u2014and how much good they can still do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jones had already rebuilt his life outside prison. The presidential pardon now changes the legal ending.<\/p>\n
