Families can be extremely complicated, and Ashley McBryde knows this all too well. In fact, she has used music to help her heal<\/a> the wounds left behind by her father. So, has she resolved her issues with him? Keep reading for more details.<\/p>\n

Ashley McBryde Has Dealt With Familial Trauma<\/h3>\n

Growing up, Ashley McBryde struggled with her father, William, who is a doctor and a pastor. She is 43, but she admitted that she has spent most of her life<\/a> being angry at him. He left her mother behind to raise Ashley and her siblings, which bred resentment:<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve done the anger part, and I did that for most of my life. I was mad at that man for most of my life and then when he left my mother and left us, I was even more\u2026I didn\u2019t even speak to him for years.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

However, she has been able to channel her anger into beautiful music. She wrote a song, \u201cHand Me Downs,\u201d about what she had gone through. Although Ashley harbored anger for a very long time<\/a>, she realized she needed to find another emotion. She realized that she wanted to figure out how she could have William in her life. He has been very sick for quite some time, and it is unclear how long he will be alive. At the same time, Ashley had to say goodbye to the father<\/a> she would never have but always wanted:<\/p>\n

Take a minute and acknowledge that wasn\u2019t the case. That is sad. It\u2019s okay that it\u2019s sad.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

She opened up about all of this on the Human School Podcast<\/em>. Ashley McBryde also acknowledged how William comes from a line of cruel men. None of the patriarchs were kind, so he is following what he learned.
