Search and rescue operations are continuing in Indonesia’s Java Sea for 129 people missing after the Virgo Transport 8 ferry capsized while travelling from Surabaya to Banjarmasin.
The vessel, a 1987 Japanese-built ferry that had been operating in Indonesia for just two months, encountered severe weather and suddenly tilted without warning. Specialized underwater units are being deployed to search the wreckage.
