Listen to “Ready to Lose” by Be Like Milo

Emerging alt-pop artist Be Like Milo has been on my radar for a while now, steadily pulling me deeper into his world of thoughtful, dark-leaning pop and dynamic hyper-alt-pop musicality. With the Broken Record EP, he showcased a real knack for poignant, dreamy balladry, songs that don’t just play, but linger, quietly unravelling their emotions with every listen.

Now, with his first release of 2026, “Ready to Lose,” Be Like Milo leans into the dancefloor, without losing any of that emotional depth. It’s a shimmering slice of synth-pop, driven by a propulsive bassline and polished with an effervescent sheen that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly current. There’s a clear nod to Robyn-esque influence here, but Be Like Milo makes the sound entirely his own, blending melancholy with movement in a way that feels effortlessly compelling.

What really elevates “Ready to Lose” is the story behind it. Speaking on the track, Milo explains:

“Who needs more heartbreak songs?… This is a break my heart song. I wrote it after getting home from a night out, where I met a guy I knew I was only using to distract myself from a deeper heartbreak. I think we’ve all had those moments where you choose the distraction, even when you know it’s not what you need.”

That emotional push-and-pull is exactly what gives the track its edge. It’s about self-awareness, and contradiction. Those fleeting moments where we knowingly lean into the wrong choice just to feel something.

There’s a noticeable progression here from Broken Record.” The sound feels bolder, more immediate, and primed for wider appeal, yet still anchored in the introspective storytelling. As an independent artist, Be Like Milo is clearly refining both his sound and identity with impressive speed.

With a headline launch show at The Waiting Room in London on 18th April, (Tickets Here) and the release of “Ready to lose” Be Like Milo isn’t just building momentum. He’s shaping a narrative that feels authentic, emotionally intelligent, and increasingly hard to ignore.
