Toby Keith Left A Legacy
When Toby Keith passed away, the country world became dim. Fans and artists alike tried to find a way to honor him properly, but it is insanely hard. He was and is a master of his craft. Toby loved his career, and he loved his country, so the two were synonymous. Jason Aldean is very much cut from the same cloth, but that is not the core thing these men have in common. They have one unique trait that no one can ever take away from them, which will last for eternity.
It seems that they both could demand what they wanted from their labels. They called the shots, and that could be a tricky situation. Now, Toby has sold over 44 million albums worldwide, and that number will continue to grow posthumously. Jason has sold over 20 million albums worldwide, but he has time. In an interview, Jason was asked this:
Do you feel like you got to a point in your career where you could call your own shots at the record label?
To that question, he stated that he cut My Kinda Party without playing any of the album’s songs for the label. Then, he and his producer handed over the album, and the label was extremely unsure. However, it exceeded expectations, and after that, anything flew with him regarding what he wanted to do. Now, almost two decades later, Jason Aldean decides which songs become the singles, and that was the same for Toby Keith.
In 2022, he shared this:
The system got so easy for me. We were getting so much airplay back then (2001), and I had figured out who I was and what I did that I’d write an album and I would tell the promotions staff, ‘Here’s your four singles, go work ’em.’
Do What They Want
Toby Keith and Jason Aldean more than proved themselves to their labels. It came to a point where they could choose what they wanted to put out with no pushback. Most of the time, they were right as they knew what their fans wanted. It was not always an easy sell, but in the end, it did work out. Not all artists have that, and this will forever bond the two men. Hopefully, Jason knows this and can hold his head up with pride.
