Helen Ganya Transforms Dreamlike Visions Into Haunting New Single “Riding on a dovetailed pony”

Dreams have long been viewed as windows into our unconscious minds, revealing hidden desires, unresolved emotions, and the everyday anxieties we carry with us. While some people wake with vivid recollections of extraordinary dreamscapes, others remember nothing at all. I definitely fall into the latter camp. Brighton-based Scottish-Thai musician Helen Ganya, however, clearly experiences the opposite—and thankfully, she has a remarkable gift for turning those nocturnal visions into captivating music.

Currently preparing to unveil her forthcoming EP “Long Lost Highway”, due September 23rd, Helen first teased the project with the striking single “Panic Button,” inspired by a dream in which she was desperately trying to reach someone as the world came to an end. Now, she follows it with the equally spellbinding “Riding on a dovetailed pony,” another song born directly from her subconscious.

“I dreamt I was on this dark highway and saw a strange animal far off in the distance,” Ganya explains. “As it came closer I realised someone was riding it, but the person kept shifting between identities. There was something really familiar and unsettling about it. It made me think about missing presences and people who exist in your imagination as much as memory.”

That lucid dream is translated into a beautifully immersive electronic composition. Driven by propulsive rhythms and wrapped in an eerie, atmospheric soundscape, the track balances haunting textures with Helen’s effortlessly ethereal vocal delivery. The result is both soothing and unsettling, moving gracefully between moments of solitude and quiet euphoria, always feeling as though it’s reaching towards something just beyond the horizon.

With “Long Lost Highway” arriving this autumn, anticipation continues to build. Helen will also headline London’s The Forge on 1 October, giving fans the chance to experience these dreamlike creations live. (See here for ticket information)

With every new release, Helen Ganya continues to carve out a space that feels entirely her own. “Riding on a dovetailed pony” is another stunning reminder that some of the most compelling stories don’t come from the waking world at all—they arrive while we’re asleep, waiting for artists brave enough to bring them to life.
