Adam Lambert embraces total artistic freedom on “ADAM”. Don’t sleep on the euphoric pop gem “Cloud 9.”
There are albums you look forward to hearing, and then there are albums you instinctively know deserve your full attention. Indeed, that was certainly the case for me this glorious past summer weekend. I immersed myself in “ADAM,” the self-released album from GRAMMY-nominated international pop powerhouse and LGBTQIA+ icon Adam Lambert.
Ever since Adam unveiled the electrifying introduction “Eat U Alive“ back in May, I had been counting down the days to this release. In recent interviews, he has spoken candidly about how this album-making process proved especially cathartic and creatively rewarding. Much like other established pop artists who have stepped away from the traditional label system to reclaim complete artistic control. Adam has emerged with a project that radiates confidence, authenticity and renewed creative freedom.
“ADAM” feels deeply personal without ever becoming heavy-handed. It balances undeniable pop highlights with more exploratory moments, inviting listeners into an honest reflection on owning imperfections, accepting accountability and confronting fear. The emotional highs and lows coexist beautifully throughout a collection of songs that draws from every chapter of Adam Lambert’s remarkable seventeen-year career.
What makes the record particularly compelling is how naturally those experiences feed into its sound. For instance, you can hear the evolution of his solo catalogue. The theatrical influence of his stage work, and, of course, the commanding presence he has developed fronting the legendary rock band Queen. Rather than feeling like separate identities, they blend seamlessly into one cohesive artistic statement.
Coinciding with the album release, the spotlight turns to “Cloud 9,” arguably the record’s most immediate pop moment. Wrapped in shimmering dance-pop production with an enticing hint of drum and bass. The track captures the intoxicating euphoria of sensual intimacy with effortless allure.
“The process used in the “Cloud 9” music video is based on Robin Hunter Blake‘s photographic research into analog stroboscopic imaging… The goal was to recreate fragmented time and discontinuous motion while preserving the visual qualities of analog photography.” Adam states
To celebrate the arrival of “ADAM”, Adam Lambert takes the music directly to fans with an intimate run of live dates across Los Angeles, Brooklyn, London and Berlin throughout July. It feels like the perfect way to introduce this vibrant new chapter.
Above all, more than simply another album release, “ADAM” stands as a reminder that true artistic freedom often arrives when an artist places complete trust in themselves. With these songs, Adam Lambert hasn’t simply rediscovered his voice. He’s created the most vividly authentic reflection of it yet, and that’s something well worth celebrating.
