‘She’s the Best’: Troye Sivan’s Feminine, Fearless New Pop Era

There are some music videos that make you sit up and pay attention, and then there are those rare moments when everything suddenly clicks into place. For me, the latest Troye Sivan chapter feels very much like the latter.

Looking back at the 2023 “Something to Give Each Other” campaign, I have to commend Troye on the enormous Easter egg he left us with in “One of Your Girls”. The collaboration with Ross Lynch saw Troye step into a hyper-feminine drag persona for the first time. Subsequently with Gordon von Steiner’s striking visual transformation prompting plenty of public reaction. At the time, it felt like a dazzling exercise in shape-shifting energy. Fast-forward to August 2026, and that moment looks remarkably like some very clever foreshadowing indeed.

Now Troye ushers in a brand-new era with “She’s the Best”, the title track from his fourth studio album, “She’s the Best”, arriving October 9, 2026.

And then comes the visual, and honestly, this is where Troye really has me leaning into the screen. Starring Nicole Kidman and Sasha Colby, the video feels like far more than a beautifully constructed pop promo. It is a celebration, an ode and a very heartfelt love letter to the women — particularly trans women — drag queens, feminine-presenting people and that wonderfully indefinable feminine spirit that has influenced Troye’s life, artistry and sense of self. There is strength here, but also softness, and it is that balance that makes the whole thing so captivating. I have already filed this firmly under: watch again immediately.

What I particularly love is the serene tenderness running through both the song and the visual. For all its shape-shifting glamour and alt-pop intrigue, Troye never feels like he is simply playing with femininity as an aesthetic. There is something much more authentic happening beneath the surface. It feels lived-in, embraced and celebrated — almost as though those clues he scattered back in the “Something to Give Each Other” era have finally arrived at their destination. And suddenly, that “One Of Your Girls” Easter egg feels less like a brilliant one-off moment and more like Troye quietly telling us, oh, you thought that was the story? We were only just getting started.

Speaking about the album, Sivan says: “She’s the Best” is a painting that captures my life in all of its moods and colours.  It explores the high-octane highs of the last few years, and the solitude and longing that sat underneath.  It’s chaotic, layered, organic, troubled and alive.  It feels like the truest and most creative version of myself I’ve ever shared.  At some point along the way I realised – the only constant in my life keeping me somewhat sane has not been the work, or the men, but the feminine.  Thank god for them.”

Wow. Oh wow. This is how you return to the pop conversation: with tenderness, intention and a little bit of glittering mystery. Consider me officially watching this chapter unfold with both eyes open.
