EMERGING ARTIST: Dandelion: Swedish Pop’s Newest Cinematic Heartbreaker Arrives With “ONONON”
It feels like a while since I last discovered a Swedish pop newcomer who really made me stop and listen. And with two of Sweden’s biggest pop exports, Robyn and Tove Lo, both unleashing new albums this year, my appetite for Swedish pop discovery is officially wide awake. Enter Stockholm-born singer-songwriter Dandelion.
Actually, Dandelion arrives with rather more songwriting clout than your average emerging artist. She has steadily established herself as one of Sweden’s sought-after songwriters. Her impressive credits include Bebe Rexha, Katy Perry, SOFI TUKKER, Griff and UPSAHL. But now, Dandelion is turning her attention towards her own solo story and, judging by what I’ve heard so far, I’m very glad she did.
Since 2025, her growing repertoire, including a self-titled debut EP, has steadily built intrigue around an artist whose intimate, cinematic alternative pop draws heavily from deeply personal experiences. The latest single, “ONONON”, offers another fascinating glimpse into that world ahead of her debut album, “My Sadness Needs Your Full Attention”. (This will arrive across two chapters between 2026 and 2027).
There is an unmistakable bittersweet pull running through “ONONON”. The song captures that emotionally messy space after a breakup, when the head knows the relationship is over, but the heart stubbornly refuses to catch up. Musically, Dandelion wraps that yearning in a dark, atmospheric alt-pop landscape. Yet, with a widescreen quality that feels almost lifted from a suspense thriller.
Speaking about the single, she explains: “ONONON” explores emotional dependency, denial, and the fear of letting go. It’s about the moments after love is gone, when your heart hasn’t caught up with reality.”
That emotional honesty is becoming central to Dandelion’s music. Combining intimate storytelling with atmospheric production, she explores heartbreak, identity, mental health, and the search for belonging without making any of it feel overly polished or distant.
So yes, I absolutely went looking for another Swedish pop discovery, and Dandelion may have just sauntered into my playlist wearing cinematic shadows and carrying a broken heart. Sometimes the best pop discoveries are the ones that quietly sneak up on you.
