Kenton Slash Demon Share Hypnotic New Track ‘Lange’ Ahead of Debut Album
Every now and then, a track drops into my inbox that immediately makes me stop what I’m doing and pay attention. Kenton Slash Demon’s “Lange” was very much one of those tracks this week. From the moment those hypnotic beats and enveloping pulses kicked in, I found myself completely drawn into its world.
The Copenhagen production duo, Jonas Kenton and Silas Moldenhawer, return with a beautifully evocative house-infused offering. A track that feels both club-ready and wonderfully immersive. Released worldwide via Future Classic. “Lange” also arrives with the exciting news that the duo are finally working towards their debut album.
Now, I admit, there was something about that bassline that immediately transported me back to the golden mid-2010s era of electronic pop. I couldn’t help but hear echoes of the sleek, emotionally charged Years & Years territory in there. (Not as a direct comparison, but more that same ability to make a dancefloor pulse feel strangely intimate).
And then there are the details that make “Lange” particularly interesting. The track is built around a sample from Danish singer Coco O, whose impressive body of work includes collaborations with Kendrick Lamar, Tyler, the Creator, Pharrell Williams and Drake. Add a mesmerising flute performance from acclaimed jazz musician Oilly Wallace, and suddenly this isn’t simply another house track. There are layers to discover.
It also feels like a fitting introduction to the next phase of Kenton Slash Demon. After more than a decade of making music, their sound draws inspiration from Copenhagen’s club culture, their travels, and the friendships and communities they have met along the way. That history is now being pulled together for their debut album.
“We have built what feels like an unlimited hard drive full of music and eras we have shared together, but without it ever becoming an actual album. Now we are opening up all those sessions, samples and recordings. Looking back, it has become clear that all the places we have travelled and all the people we have met have shaped our lives. Now we are bringing those threads together on an album,” the duo says
I rather like the thought of that. An album built from years of musical memories, half-forgotten sessions, places travelled and people met feels far more interesting than something created simply because the calendar says it is time for an album.
For now, “Lange” is the delicious little preview. It has the pulse of the club, the warmth of nostalgia and enough mystery to leave me wondering what else KSD have been hiding on that very full hard drive. Consider my curiosity officially piqued.
